Free brand voice checker

Check your brand voice against how your customers talk.

A brand voice checker shows whether your writing sounds like the people you write for. This one reads what your customers say, on your site or pasted in, and shows where your page says it differently. Free, with no account and no card.

One public page. Copytone also reads the pages of your site where reviews and testimonials are likely to be. It takes under a minute, and nothing is kept.

Optional. For a site whose reviews load in a widget, or to add survey answers.

What a check shows, on a made-up plumbing firm

Brookmere is not a real company, and none of this is about your site. Check your own page above and your result appears here instead.

Your page, in your customers' voice

On your page

We deliver reliable, punctual heating and plumbing solutions tailored to your home.

In their voice

We turn up when we say we will, explain everything before starting, and leave the place spotless, with no hidden extras.

From what your customers wrote
  • turn up when we say we will
“They turn up when they say they will, which after our last plumber felt like a small miracle.”
  • explain everything before starting
“He took the time to explain everything before starting, so there were no surprises.”
  • leave the place spotless
“Every time, they leave the place spotless.”
  • no hidden extras
“The price we were quoted was the price we paid, with no hidden extras.”

A place to start. Every phrase in it is on your page or in your customers' own words, and you decide what to use.

Copytone does this for every page, email and post your team writes.

What does the free brand voice checker do?

It shows how the words on one page of your website compare with the words your customers use. Paste the address of a public page. Copytone reads it and looks for reviews and testimonials on your site, or you add them yourself. Ask, and it rewrites the first sentences on your page in your customers' voice, built from their own words, with each borrowed phrase shown beside the comment it came from. It also shows what your customers say that your page doesn't, and the sentences to look at first, with why.

Is it a tone of voice checker too?

Yes, with one difference. Most tone checkers label writing as formal, friendly or confident. This one compares your wording with your own customers' words, so it shows whether you sound like the people who already buy from you. It also marks corporate filler and hard sentences a customer would trip on.

What does it look for?

Three things. What your customers say that is specific to you, such as how they describe a product in their own words, with how many of them said it. Where your page says the same thing in other words. And wording a customer would trip on: corporate filler such as “solutions” or “leverage”, claims to check and long sentences. There is no score, because a number can't tell a great sentence from a safe one.

Try the plain English checker or the readability checker on any writing.

Where does the customer voice come from?

From your own website, or from what you add. Copytone reads the page and up to 12 more pages of your site that are most likely to hold reviews or testimonials, such as reviews, testimonials and customer stories pages. You can also add reviews or survey answers yourself: paste them, or add screenshots, spreadsheets, PDFs or Word files, which are read on our own server and not kept. Names are taken out first. One review is enough when it says something specific. It never reads review sites such as Trustpilot or Google.

What if my site has no reviews on it?

It still checks every sentence for wording a customer would trip on. Add some of your customers' reviews or survey answers above, as screenshots, files or pasted, then check the page again. Checking the same page again that day is free.

Is it free, and what does it keep?

One check a day is free with no account, and checking the same page again after adding your customer voice is free too. A 7-day trial checks up to 200 pages of your site. Nothing is kept: not the pages, the reviews or the results. How your words are handled is set out in our privacy notice.

How the reader behaves is set out on the CopytoneBot page. What a studio does with your own review, survey and social listening exports is on the home page.

What can it not tell you?

Whether a sentence is true, or allowed under advertising rules. It shows how your wording compares with your customer voice, and what a customer may trip on. It doesn't approve anything, and a person decides what to change.
